Artist Statement
I enjoy being right brained.
I enjoy seeing composition, patterns, light, dark, the textures and smells,
the wind.
I enjoy watching how form moves and how the interplay between another
affects the first.
I enjoy comedy, the visual, verbal, the unrecognized, the unsuspected.
I enjoy this wonderful, exciting home we call Earth, Terra, Gaea, Chikyu,
Uwa, Ard, and Art! With all its mysteries and secrets.
I enjoy the capacity of humanity, for its curiosity, perception, insight, and
empathy.
I am compelled to photograph when I see an emotion, a voice of humanity,
or a cry for meaning in existence. I am also drawn to the humor and light
hearted joy found in everyday life.
I enjoy photographing. My hope is that my perceptions will bring an
enjoyable, compassionate response.
My left brain encroaches and tells me that it might be all for naught. That
it’s just dust in the wind.
I shall continue, however, to photograph this world and share my vision with
you, because that is who I am. (and because my right brain prevails)
The photos in this collection were taken while walking the streets in Japan
and experiencing the metre of my surroundings. Japan is a mix of very old
and new merging into the most fascinating environment.
My style of photographing on the street is to be an observer, not to
manipulate the action. In doing so I get images that reflect the everyday
rhythms of life.
